Our research-focused conferences offer a unique opportunity for researchers and scientist/practitioners from a broad array of disciplines to come together for the purpose of sharing, integrating and critiquing accumulated science on violence. Our conference is also known for offering many opportunities to interact formally and informally with colleagues.  We believe strongly that it matters not only what information is presented but also how it is presented.  Our conference is a unique gathering of scholars and professionals who all have a shared passion for better understanding and ameliorating the burden of violence.  We offer many different forums and opportunities for interaction in an environment that facilitates exchanging ideas and networking.
The meeting is usually attended by a wide range of professionals and graduate students from psychology, sociology, psychiatry, social work, nursing, women's studies, law, criminology, criminal justice, anthropology, medicine, public health, and child development. Although many sessions focus on methodological issues (usually of more interest to researchers), there is also cutting-edge research on all aspects of family violence and child victimization. We are especially interested in encouraging students to attend and present. In recent years, approximately 1/3 of our attendees have been from outside the United States.  It is an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from people working on a wide-range of violence-related topics in a wide range of settings.
